As regular readers of this blog, you’re all familiar with Smoothie Bowls, of course. :-) You may have also seen my Basic Recipe for Açaí Bowls. Well, today I’m adding a new bowl to the family: Green Smoothie Bowls, a wonderfully thick and spoonable alternative to regular green smoothies!

Basic recipe

A Green Smoothie Bowl comprises a smoothie made from fruit and leafy greens, which is then thickened (and made spoonable) by blending in chia seeds, grain flakes (including those of gluten-free grains), or frozen fruits and vegetables.

For the Green Smoothie Bowl in the photos, I used a base made from banana, spinach, frozen mango, and matcha powder. You can find more ideas for Green Smoothies here.

Green Smoothie Bowls are super versatile – feel free to play around with the different combinations in the base smoothie and in the toppings!

Toppings

Let your imagination run wild! I topped the bowl in the pic with bananas, kiwi, shredded coconut, and chia seeds. I also like to use other superfoods like goji berries, dried mulberries, and dried chokeberries, or nuts and other seeds and fruits on my Green Smoothie Bowls.

ZUTATEN:
  • 1 banana
  • 50 g leaf spinach
  • 1/2 Mango peeled, destoned, chopped, and frozen
  • 1 tsp Matcha*
  • 1 Kiwi
  • 1 tbsp shredded coconut*
  • 1 tsp chia seeds *
ANLEITUNG:
  1. Peel and slice banana. Put one half aside to use as a topping and add the other half to the blender (I use my Vitamix Pro 750*). Wash spinach and add to blender. Blend.
  2. Peel mango, remove stone, and cut into pieces. Add mango and matcha to blender and blend until creamy. Add water if necessary.
  3. Pour green smoothie into a bowl.
  4. Peel and slice kiwi. Top smoothie with banana slices, shredded coconut, chia seeds, and sliced kiwi.
