When I was a kid, we used to leave out colorful plates of sweets for Santa to nibble on when he showed up (I know in the USA, they do this with milk and cookies). I’ve always loved these assortments of (mostly) sweets, and for several years now, my mom has been making me a healthier version – you never get too old for this kind of thing ;-).

I let her wisdom and creativity inspire me to create my own colorful plate. This is for anyone in search of an alternative to the usual assortment of processed sweets, whether they’re making stocking stuffers or Santa plates, or just big fans of the holiday season. Enjoy!

Ideas for a Clean Eating Santa Claus / Christmas platter:

  • Oranges and clementines
  • Nuts (walnuts, pecans …)
  • Dried fruits (apple, apricots …)
  • Dark chocolate
  • Gingerbread (contains a bit of sugar)
  • Raw Vegan Energy Balls

In Sandra Engler’s Vegane Pralinen und Konfekt,* I came across a great Christmas recipe for Spiced Energy Balls with Rose Water, which I’ve modified here:

Spiced Cardamom Rose Water Energy Balls

ZUTATEN:
  • 2 pods cardamom*
  • 150 g dates dried and pitted
  • 100 g hazelnuts
  • 20 g raw cacao*
  • 1 tbsp rose water*
  • 1 generous pinch ground vanilla* or 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
ANLEITUNG:
  1. Open cardamom pods with a sharp knife. Grind all ingredients in a high-speed blender until it forms a paste.
  2. Using your hands, form mixture into 10 balls.
